Dublin City Welcome to Dublin signHistory of Dublin

In 1803, Ludwig Sells settled at what would eventually became Dublin, Ohio, after searching for a suitable site along the Scioto River. When Sells arrived, the area was already inhabited by groups of Native Americans, including the Shawnee, Hopewell and Delaware tribes. Once Sells officially established Dublin as a village, several families arrived from Pennsylvania to start their own farms. From the early 1800s until the 1970s, Dublin was known for its farming, mills and stone quarries.

In the 1970s, Dublin underwent a major transformation. Officials decided to add a ramp to Dublin on Interstate 270, making the village much easier to access. As a result, several new businesses established operations in Dublin, prompting builders to develop new residential communities. Due to its rapid growth, Dublin became a city in 1987.

Today, Dublin residents enjoy a wide variety of amenities, including parks, museums and excellent schools. Several major corporations have also established operations in Dublin, creating thousands of jobs for community members. Although Dublin is now a modern city, local officials have worked hard to preserve its history as a farming village. Historic Dublin now serves as a link to the city's past, giving residents the opportunity to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life as they shop, dine and view several examples of architecture from the 1800s.

Local Demographics

As of 2020, Dublin had 49,328 residents, an increase of more than 18% from the previous census in 2010. Approximately 74% of the city's population identifies as white, around 20% are Asian and about 4% are Hispanic or Latino. Dublin is also home to residents who identify as Black, Hawaiian/Pacific Islander and American Indian or Alaska Native.

From 2015 to 2019, Dublin had a median household income of $137,867 per year, which is much higher than the national median. High household incomes have been linked to Dublin's reputation for educational excellence; more than 97% of residents have a high school diploma, and nearly 75% have a bachelor's degree or higher.

Dublin Neighborhoods

Dublin has several neighborhoods, including Downtown, Muirfield Village, Wyandotte Woods, Llewellyn Farms, Hemingway Village and The Woods of Indian Run. These suburban neighborhoods are known for their low crime rates and well-kept homes.

Downtown

Downtown Dublin is where the past meets the present, combining the old-world charm of brick sidewalks with on-trend boutiques, upscale restaurants and craft beer. When they're not strolling along the Scioto River or having a bite to eat, residents spend time at Bridge Park and Riverside Crossing Park. Downtown Dublin is just a quick walk across the Dublin Link, a pedestrian bridge offering scenic views of this vibrant neighborhood.

Muirfield Village

Muirfield Village is a planned community on the outskirts of Dublin. The neighborhood is ideal for residents who enjoy outdoor activities, as it has two golf courses, nearly 30 miles of paved walkways and two recreation areas with swimming pools, basketball courts and tennis courts. Muirfield Village is known for its stately homes, some of which are tucked away on heavily wooded lots, giving residents plenty of privacy.

Wyandotte Woods

Wyandotte Woods is an exclusive planned community just a few minutes away from Historic Dublin and Bridge Park. Each home has at least 2,500 square feet of living space, 2.5 baths and two or three garage bays, making the neighborhood ideal for larger families or couples who need a lot of storage space. Emerald Fields Park has a public playground and sports fields for kids, while Kosciuszko Park has a recreation path and fishing lake, making it a little more secluded.

Llewellyn Farms

Llewellyn Farms is a Dublin neighborhood with nearly 200 households. Residents are invited to join the neighborhood civic association, which plans special events and focuses on preserving the beauty of the community. Adults and children alike enjoy spending time at Llewellyn Farms Park, which has a playground, a picnic shelter and courts for basketball and tennis. Cyclists also love riding the bike path that connects Llewellyn Farms to Old Dublin.

Hemingway Village

Hemingway Village has more than 400 homes with high-end finishes and plenty of room for outdoor entertaining. The neighborhood also has walking and cycling paths connecting to Coffman Park and Stonefield Park, making it easy for residents to explore their surroundings. When residents aren't working, they often spend time ice skating, fishing and taking part in other recreational activities. Hemingway Village even has holiday-themed special events, giving residents plenty of opportunities to socialize.

The Woods of Indian Run

The Woods of Indian Run has nearly 100 wooded lots bordered by a stream on two sides. Upscale homes sit on Forest Run Drive, Forest Run Court, Timberview Drive and Willow Run Drive, giving residents convenient access to Dublin's bike paths, Emerald Parkway and Coffman Road. Each summer, residents gather at nearby Coffman High School to watch fireworks and enjoy performances by well-known recording artists. Past events have featured performances by Peter Frampton, Sheryl Crow and Blues Traveler.

Outdoor Attractions

Indian Run Falls has more than three acres of walking paths and scenic overlooks, making it one of Dublin's most popular attractions. When you're not gazing at the falls or looking for wildlife, use one of the park's two shelters to enjoy a picnic lunch. During the summer months, locals flock to Ballantrae Park to use the community splash pad. The park also has a pond and a statue featuring giant rabbits, making it a big draw for children. Head to the Grounds of Remembrance for a lesson on American history. The park honors veterans and current members of the military with a memory wall and a ceremonial area used for special events on Memorial Day and Veterans Day each year.

Arts and Culture

Dublin Arts Center, housed in a historic home on Riverside Drive, has a small art gallery featuring works by local artists. The home itself is also a work of art, as its designer was heavily influenced by French architecture. As you walk through Dublin Arts Center, notice the Art Deco details, grand chandelier and circular staircase. When you finish viewing the works on display, enjoy stunning views of the Scioto River from the top floor of the house.

Columbus Museum of Art is a popular cultural attraction for residents of Dublin. The museum has a dozen permanent collections, including Women Artists, Folk & Outsider Art, American Art and European Art. These collections contain works by some of the most famous artists in the world, from Ansel Adams to Claude Monet. CMOA also has an on-site café and a store stocked with art-related books, apparel, jewelry and other merchandise.

Columbus is also home to the Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens, Center of Science and Industry (COSI) and National Veterans Memorial and Museum. Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens showcases exotic plant species and has a private collection of blown glass sculptures by Dale Chihuly. Located in the Franklinton neighborhood, COSI has a dinosaur gallery and exhibits on energy, gadgets and machinery. The National Veterans Memorial and Museum is the only museum in the United States that honors American veterans from all eras and branches of service.

Top Employers

With nearly 5,000 employees, Cardinal Health is the largest employer in Dublin. The company produces a wide variety of medical and pharmaceutical products, including durable medical equipment, gloves, patient monitors and specialty drugs. OhioHealth has approximately 2,000 employees, making it Dublin's second largest employer. The not-for-profit health care system operates hospitals and other health care facilities throughout the state. Other major employers include Dublin City Schools, Sedgwick, The Wendy's Company and Quantum Health.

For residents willing to commute to Columbus, living in Dublin opens up a whole new world of professional opportunities. The Ohio State University has nearly 30,000 staff members and more than 13,000 student employees, making it one of the largest employers in the state. Nationwide and JPMorgan Chase & Co. are also key employers located in Columbus.

Local Schools

With a total of 23 schools, Dublin City Schools is the ninth largest district in the state. Approximately 60% of DCS students live in Dublin, and the other 40% come from Columbus, Hilliard, Franklin County and surrounding areas. For the past six years, Dublin City Schools has had more National Merit Semi-Finalists than any other district in Ohio. The district is also known for having a high percentage of students in Advanced Placement classes and a diverse student body. As of the 2021-2022 school year, Dublin City Schools has nearly 17,000 students.

Dublin is also home to an Ohio University extension campus, which holds classes for students enrolled in OU's Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine, College of Health Sciences and Professions, College of Fine Arts, College of Business and George V. Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service. Nearby Columbus has several institutions of higher learning, including The Ohio State University, Ohio Dominican University and Franklin University.
